It's that time of the year to review the new DVD set of the latest season of my current favorite TV series, which is number eight of NCIS(Naval Criminal Investigation Service) that was created by famed TV producer and writer Don Bellisario(creator & producer of TV series MAGNUM PI and QUANTUM LEAP) as a spinoff to his popular military TV series JAG and starring Mark Harmon as Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs,Cote de Pablo as Mossad liason agent Ziva David,Michael Weatherly and Sean Murray as NCIS agents Tony Dinozzo and Timothy McGee,Pauley Perrette as Forensic specialist Abby Sciutto,David McCallum as Forensic Dr.Donald "Ducky" Mallard,Brian Dietzen as Dr.Mallard's assistant,Jimmy Palmer and Rocky Carroll as NCIS Director Leon Vance. For the past eight seasons,NCIS has been the most popular TV series on CBS because of it's well written and intriguing plots as well as the very well tuned chemistry of all it's cast. This eight season is no exception although by this time there is some predictability as it always happens in TV shows that last more than five seasons, but for the most part the 24 episodes of this eight season are very entertaining, thrilling and amusing thanks for great direction, good scripts and the well toned interaction of the show's cast.
Besides containing all 24 episodes of season eight, this DVD set of NCIS also contain audio commentaries by cast members Mark Harmon,Micheal Weatherly,Sean Murray and Pauley Perrette on certain episodes, various featurettes on the making of this eight season,a Question and Answer session with the cast and crew of NCIS about Season Eight, interviews with the special effects crew and screenwriters about Season Eight,a look of the special makeup effects used in episode "Foreign Enemies" and a talk with NCIS actor Micheal Weatherly about directing his first NCIS TV episode. All in all, a good DVD release of Season Eight of NCIS that will satisfy the many devoted fans of this very popular television show.
